On a historical word choice of Dave Eggers
Maybe in this sense every generation digs a hole and then goes around preaching about the importance of climbing out of it while young people nod politely at them and dig different holes entirely.I think this may be the most concise explanation for the widespread “everything’s broken, everything’s wrong” mindset I’ve been noticing (and is fertile on the web, since it’s a place for discussion.) It’s liberating to think that, yes, things are wrong right now. Yes, we can fix them. And, yes, in the process, we’re going to create new unforseen problems. The work is never done. There’s no finish line to evolving. Obvious? Probably. But I’ve got my own hole to dig.
